About

A journalist and advertising professional with a degree from PUC-RJ, David Obadia is an audiovisual director, director of photography, screenwriter, and editor who has been working in audiovisual production for over 20 years. He has been a co-owner of Digi2 Filmes since 2002, and in 2008, alongside Dom Filó and Mauricio Eiras, he founded Cultne, a platform dedicated to the preservation, production, and dissemination of Black Brazilian narratives.
Throughout his career, he has directed documentaries, series, music videos, cultural projects, and advertising campaigns, working with artists and public figures such as Altay Veloso, Chico César, Conceição Evaristo, Elisa Lucinda, Léa Garcia, Teresa Cristina, Helena Theodoro, and Marcos Valle. He directed the feature film *Gerson King Combo – O Filme*, which was released in theaters and later aired on Music Box Brasil.
He is also the director of the feature-length documentary *João Cândido, um Herói Sem Máscara*. He has also directed and served as cinematographer on projects related to music, culture, health, and ecology, with audiovisual work presented at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington. His experience further includes cinematography, editing, color grading, motion design, audio, and screenwriting, enabling him to work in an integrated manner across different stages of production.
Since 2023, he has been expanding his work in the use of artificial intelligence applied to audiovisual media, including the creation of characters, images, and videos, as well as conducting training workshops on audiovisual production with AI. This work is grounded in a critical perspective on technology, labor, and the contest over narratives, viewing AI as a tool for expanding human creative and productive capacity. At Cultne, his work combines audiovisual direction, technological innovation, training, content production, and the development of new forms of expression for digital platforms and connected television.
