About
Through intimate forms of storytelling, Gabriele Roza creates Afro-Brazilian stories and memoirs. Her work explores notions of culture, identity, and well-being through a Black diasporic lens. She is the co-founder of Café Preto, a project that energizes the Black intellectual and artistic scene in Rio de Janeiro. She is also a writer and host of Filhos da Diáspora, a narrative podcast that connects Black experiences around the world. Additionally, she serves as an advisor to Mulheres Negras Decidem, a movement she co-founded, and as an advisor to the Museum of Afro-Brazilian History and Culture (MUHCAB). In 2019, with support from the State Secretariat of Culture and LIGHT, she directed “Enraizadas,” a documentary that explores Black ancestry through the use of braids. Between 2016 and 2018, she was editor of Jornal Nuvem Negra, a publication by Black students at PUC-Rio, where she graduated with a degree in Social Communication—Journalism.
