Mombasa is Capricorn, Botafogo and Mangueira at heart. Born and raised in Paciência, a neighborhood in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, as early as the age of 5, he sang at the Baptist Church attended by his parents and 6 brothers, all musicians. Self-taught, early on, Mombasa would "scratch" his older brother's accordion, although his first instrument was the cavaquinho, then the mandolin and finally the guitar, which he learned without method and without a master. His first professional experience was with Trio Centelha. With the group disbanded, Mombaça pursued a solo career. He sang at night in Rio, participated in festivals, concerts, records, even recording his own solo album, an independent production.
