Nei Lopes

Nei Lopes is a composer, singer, writer and scholar of African cultures. He became famous as a samba dancer, mainly because of his partnership with Wilson Moreira. Connected to the samba schools Acadêmicos do Salgueiro and Vila Isabel, he maintains purely affective ties with them. A professional composer since 1972, he composed in partnerships with musicians such as Maestro Moacir Santos, Ivan Lins, Zé Renato, Fátima Guedes, Marco Mattoli and Ed Motta. As a writer since 1981, he has been producing, in addition to short stories, novels and poetry, a vast work of African studies, with an eminently pedagogical nature, centered on reference works such as dictionaries and an encyclopedia.
