Cultne recorded a chat with Lydia Garcia and Ainá Garcia at the meeting at Livraria Kitabu, during the Imagina Rio event. Lydia is a specialist in music education, theater, mobilization, culture and citizenship. Militant of the Black Movement, she became an activist in the 1970s. She was one of the first militants to climb Serra da Barriga, in Alagoas, a temple of resistance and the seat of one of the largest quilombos in Brazil.

Experimental Black Theater - Abdias Nascimento

Abstract: In October 1944 in Rio de Janeiro a group formed by black women and men, having as its leader the black activist Abdias do Nascimento was created: the Experimental Black Theater. Its prime aim was to give black actors and actresses conditions to take to stage characters free from the stereotyped vision that was being reproduced and absorbed specially after the 19th century. Black people represented in an inhumane way were about to be ignored, to make room for the Negro with his own questions and dilemmas. The white actor painted black, so common in the Brazilian theater, would also be substituted. Widely the group initiative also represented the refuse of a role, not only in theater, but also in society, that the stage represented very clearly. Considered the subject of his own destiny the blacks were asked to assume a great part of the responsibility to himself integrated, but always claiming for real integration conditions. This objective was determinant for the development of a wide proposal of the group. And the investigation of its trajectory and its strategy of action shows the way this important initiative of the Brazilian black movement was it connected to its context.

Altay Veloso - Fragments of the Opera "Alabet of Jerusalem"

Boa Vista Solar Theater - Chicco Assis

Cultne recorded with chat, images and editing by Filó Filho, Vik Birkbeck and Nelson Maca the conversation with Chicco Assis, the current manager of Cine Teatro Solar Boa Vista. Chicco is one of the important collaborators of the "Pra te Lembrar do Badauê" project that took place at CineTeatro Solar Boa Vista in the Brotas neighborhood. On that occasion, the poet Nelson Maca from Coletivo Blackitude collaborated with the Cultne Collection interviewing Chicco Assis, coordinator of the Cine Teatro Solar Boa Vista, always in tune with the cultural memory of the neighborhood where he is located, started the celebrations for the 35th anniversary of Badauê, holding several concerts with the participation of several artists and the community, with the desire to continue activities to promote this memory.

On the occasion, we interviewed Sandra Almada, author of the book Damas negras - Sucesso, lutas, discrimination (Mauad, 1995), a work on the trajectory of actresses who approach the work of recognition and affirmative position of black women in the media. The book discusses issues related to racism in the artistic and academic fields, the difficulty of finding characters who were not already classified by the author as black and the fact that they are usually called to serve roles.
