The Afro-Brazilian Research and Studies Institute was born in 1981, when Abdias Nascimento returned to Brazil after 13 years of absence during the authoritarian regime. The mission of IPEAFRO is to cooperate with the Afro-descendant population in the recovery of their history and in the maintenance and expansion of their original cultural values and respect for their ethnic and human identity, integrity and dignity; Dimension the importance of the contribution of Africans and Afro-descendants in the construction of Brazil and the world.
