On January 19, 1987, a rehearsal recording by Ed Motta and the band Conexão Japeri that emerged in the late 80's. , in 1988, with songs like "Manuel", "Vamos Dança", "Baixo Rio" and "Um love". Successes marked by exuberant musicality and that introduced strong components of soul and funk to pop-rock that then prevailed in Brazil. It soon became apparent that, at the age of 16, Ed Motta had arrived to stay and fly much higher.

The Color of the Skin registered the young Ed Motta at the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS) in Rio de Janeiro in 1987. Ed Motta emerged in the late 1980s, as the vigorous singer and one of the composers and producers of Conexão Japeri. An instant sensation in the carioca circuit of concerts, which the group confirmed on their debut album, "Conexão Japeri" (Warner), in 1988, with songs such as "Manuel", "Vamos Dança", "Baixo Rio" and "Um love ". Successes marked by exuberant musicality and that introduced strong components of soul and funk to pop-rock that then prevailed in Brazil.
