Public Act Against Police Violence - 1982
With images from the producer Enugbarijô by Ras Adauto and Vik Birkbeck and an updated edition of Filó Filho, we bring this record for reflection on the 125 Years of the Abolition of Slavery. In 1982, in Rio de Janeiro, photographer Luiz Mourier from Jornal do Brasil brought to the world the reality experienced by blacks and poor people in this country. In an inhumane and racist attitude, the Military Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro approached and arrested a group of blacks using ropes around their necks in an area near Estrada Grajaú Jacarepaguá, in the northern part of Rio de Janeiro.
